Two dates for your diary...

Our special Christmas Late Night Opening is on Friday 22nd November from 6.00 - 8.00pm. Join us for the launch of our wonderful Christmas stock - with free mince pies and mulled wine. There will be double Loyalty Card points during the evening (with points to be redeemed at an alternative time).

The Village Stores Quiz Night is on Monday 25th November at 7.30 in The Red Lion. This is always a great evening, raising funds for the Village Stores. Why not book a team table on 01491 837373?

Fantastic New Frozen Foods

We’re delighted to say that our two big new freezers have just been filled with a wonderful range of self-serve frozen goods. Savoury tarts, fish cakes, chicken goujons and Salmon en Croute are joined by Tuscan vegetables, roast potatoes, fruits, waffles, Yorkshire puddings, garlic bread, steakhouse fries and many more. Just take a bag and help yourself to as little or as much as you need.

We’re hoping this new range will be a really popular addition to the shop and look forward to hearing what you think. Tell us if there’s something extra you’d like to see as we’re starting with a trial selection and many other options are available. Come and have a look!

We hope you're enjoying the incredible sunshine, interrupted by the odd deluge. All designed to remind us that we're living in Great Britain...

Great News and Special Offers!

By now you may have heard the wonderful news that thanks to fundraising, the kindness of so many of our friends and a very generous legacy, we should be able to pay off the Village Stores’ outstanding set-up loan by the end of 2013. We should also have funds in hand to replace or add extra cold storage units. This means the shop can face a very positive future and we’re hugely grateful to everyone who has supported us.

With supporters in mind, our Annual General Meeting is in the Village Hall at 8pm on Wednesday 19th June. The meeting is open to everyone. Please come and join us - we’d love to see you there.

While you’re in the shop, look out for our newly arrived ‘Special Offer’ signs. Ramsbury Teas are currently reduced to £3.00 a packet and our very popular Navajas Rioja wine is down from £8.49 to £7.00 a bottle. After a short break in production (the lambs needed the milk!) Spenwood cheese is now back in store.

Have you tried our brilliant new Dry Cleaners? They’re better value and quicker than before - with drop-off and pick-up times on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Sample prices: Trousers £6.50, Two-Piece Suit £11.00.
Another reason to go no further than the Village Stores!

A new sign has just been put up outside the Village Hall to make it clear where the hall, Village Stores and Post Office are. Now it's even easier to find us!

Nearly New Success

Thank you to everyone who came to our Nearly New Sale on 30th March. We raised over £350 for the shop and sold a lot of wonderful things! Thank you, too, to everyone who helped run the event and to all of you who donated clothes.

Did you know that The Independent has recently chosen Wigmore cheese as one of their 10 Best British Cheeses? This soft, brie-style cheese was described as 'smooth as a kiss and very subtle.' Surely worth dropping in for a slice!

Nearly New Sale, Saturday 30th March
Village Hall, Brightwell cum Sotwell
10am - 2pm

We'd love to see you at our first ever Nearly New Sale, to raise funds towards paying off the shop's outstanding loan. Stalls will include women's clothing, men's clothing, children's clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories. Come for some bargains and join us for a Hot Cross bun and a hot drink - just £1.00!

If you'd like to sell...

Please bring any clothes for sale into the shop between 20th March and 29th March. The Village Stores will take 30% of the profits of sold items and will give you 70% in cash, to be collected in store within one week of the sale. Or you can choose to donate all profits to the Village Stores. Clothes must be in good, clean condition. Unsold items are to be collected by 2.30pm on the day of the sale. February News

As the spring bulbs bravely show their heads, we’re thinking about Mother’s Day on 10th March and we'll have a special selection of gifts in store. On 30th March we’ll be hosting a Nearly New Sale for the first time - with lots of exciting stalls. More details soon

Our new local cheeses are a huge success and we’ve increased our range of biscuits and crackers to accompany them. The cheeses are freshly-cut in store and, by popular request, we’re now making larger-size portions available. You can also order whole and half cheeses. Spenwood, Barkham Blue, Waterloo, Rosethorne Blue and Wigmore – eccentrically named, but delicious!

Don’t forget that you can order newspapers and magazines from the shop and have them waiting for you when you call in. It isn't necessary to order a full week’s papers - you can choose any combination of days you like! Look out, too, for our bright new range of greetings cards.

Brightwell cum Sotwell’s new Community Led Parish Plan is setting out a vision of how the parish will evolve over the next ten years. If you’d like to find out more and join the Plan’s email list, please click here: www.bcscommunityledparishplan.org.uk/?page_id=148

Looking forward to seeing you in the Stores soon!

Snow is Good!

Despite the recent freezing conditions, snow has been great for the Village Stores. We did more business than usual during the heavy snowfall and over a couple of days our takings increased by around 20%. Thank you for supporting us!

New Local Cheeses

Our new range of cheeses has just gone on sale. Try the delicious soft cheeses Wigmore, Waterloo and Rosethorne Blue and the wonderful hard cheeses Barkham Blue and Spenwood, all locally sourced.

 Open Meeting Success

Thanks very much to everyone who came to our Open Meeting in the Village Hall on 22nd January. We had some very positive news about the shop, including the fact that £2,000 has been raised towards paying off our loan.

Happy New Year!

Village Stores Open Meeting

On Tuesday 22nd January there will be a Village Stores Open Meeting in Brightwell Village Hall at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start. There will be cheese and wine, with tasters of new cheese planned for the store. Tea and coffee will also be available. Everyone is welcome. Send us an email if you’d like to come: bcscvs@btinternet.com or just let someone know in the shop. We look forward to seeing you.
